*This started as a RFW guitar-prominant Transmission. The concept/graphic illustrations (Creepy #51 - 1964, stills from The Brain That Wouldn't Die - 1962, and The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark - William Shakespeare, the trailer of Bring Me The Head Of Alfredo Garcia - Sam Peckenpah - 1974)  are inspired and dedicated to comedienne Kathy Griffen, who has come under scrutiny and persecution for her horror-movie tinged image although it has hundreds of predecessors .

I view it as both satirical and sobering.
I hope we can all agree that violence is never the answer in any circumstance.

But alas, poor us when the views of people (well intentions aside) attempt to interfere with the freedom of expression, the press and/or aid in the censorship of the arts (well intentions aside).

But remember all is fair in love and war!

**Executive Producers for this shindig were usual suspects Dr. Vincent Boom-Ba
and Sweet Pea who provided the requisite company, tea, squawk and sympathy!

Transmission 4117 - Bonjour

Electric Sounds

Jean Michele Jarre

*Sometimes a reputation or hype can be a real negative when going to an anticipated concert. The artist's best days might be behind them and or the PR is of the store-bought variety.

Neither was the case when Jean Michel Jarre appeared on Boston's waterfront. The marque read the "Electronica" Tour which struck me as odd since the term didn't even exist when Jarre began creating music with synths. But in keeping with his recent releases of the same name, the familiar longer multi-section pieces were punctuated with shorter more current sounding electric applications. to great affect.

Highlights included classics such as "Oxygene", "Equinox" and the wonderful "Souvenir of China", but as expected - the lasers, lights, graphics and Jean Michel himself made the plugged-in evening an experience to remember!

You can find the remaining tour dates here.

Michael Nesmith
The Waterboys
African Head Charge
Sun Ra
Adrian Belew

"I don't want to work"

*Is It The Drummer Or The Drum?
is both the title of today's RFW Transmission and a question inspired by
an impressive performance by
Kodō (鼓童),
the internationally renowned taiko drumming troupe based in Sado, Japan.

The various translations of Kodō,
"children of the drum" and "heartbeat",
are both very appropriate and actually supply the answer.

These amazingly fluid drummers were so at one with each other
and their instruments that it was as if they were percussive offspring and siblings.
Whether delicately fingering, playfully partnering or furiously pounding
the synchronicity on display and sounds created
sent one's pulse into overdrive.

Celebrating their 35th anniversary, the Dadan 2017 tour,
overseen by Artistic Director Tamasaburo Bando,
is that rare combination of transcending spirituality and sheer physicality
with the audience transported from meditative serenity to explosive attention
 and all stops in between.

Future dates are scheduled for the remainder of the year throughout Japan including the
Earth Celebration 2017, Aug. 18–20 on Sado Island, Niigata.
Visit the Kodō site for details.

The host of Kodō Dadan 2017 at Symphony Hall, Boston is also
New England's major presenting organization with over 100 performance
and outreach activities annually.
Their mission to present world-class performing artists
who inspire and enrich our community is on full display at any of
the Celebrity Series of Boston upcoming events

Thank you for listening to RFW and supporting the world-wide arts community!
